CAT STILL IN NEED! 💜 Sasha is in pain and she needs your help!
Every evening at sundown, 85-year-old Nadia pushed her little wheeled cart down the street from her Brooklyn flat to the abandoned house where a dozen or so cats waited for her. Most of them milled around, tails up with excitement as she slowly filled and set down their supper dishes. But Sasha, a petite black and white cat with a pink nose and an iron will, was different.
Sasha would plant herself on the sidewalk, take a breath and let the elderly woman have it. A rapid-fire series of mews clearly meant, “I’m hungry! Can’t you go any faster?” Once she’d eaten, the feral’s impatience always melted away and she’d give her friend’s ankles a cordial head bump before ambling off. Her sweet "thank you" was the best part of Nadia’s day.
Then, a month ago, Sasha disappeared. She had been there every night for years so Nadia was beside herself with worry. When Sasha finally returned a few days ago, one of her front legs was missing.
We don’t know how this baby got hurt. Thankfully, Nadia stayed calm when she saw the terrible wound and was able to get the frightened cat into a carrier. Unsure what to do next, she called Neighborhood Cats. We quickly brought Sasha to our vet who took x-rays and confirmed the remnants of the leg - skin, muscles and tendons - are dangerously infected. Amputation is the only way to end her pain and stop the spread of potentially lethal sepsis.

CAT IN NEED 💜 Help Scarlett get life-saving surgery!
All her life, Scarlett has been looking for a friend. The little brown tabby was born in the basement of a building in Washington Heights, New York. She was just weeks old when the building’s super spotted her there among the other basement cats, wobbling on three legs. Born without a right hind leg, Scarlett badly needed medical care, but the busy super could do no more than leave a dish of food out for the cats each day. In pain and with no one to help her, Scarlett became fearful of people. Still, the stubborn kitten survived.
Nine months passed until Linda, a local rescuer, heard about Scarlett’s plight and last week went to trap her. By then, the stump of the missing leg was raw and bleeding. Unable to afford extensive veterinary care, Linda called Neighborhood Cats. We hurried Scarlett to a nearby clinic and learned the exposed bone and tissue are now severely infected. Although antibiotics offer temporary relief, the risk of dangerous, recurring infection remains. Surgery to remove the remnants of the leg is the only cure.
Will you help give Scarlett the treatment she urgently needs? Our sweet girl is trying so hard. She clings to her new, trusted friend, a stuffed animal named Mr. Lamb, and sleeps with her striped head pillowed on his cotton-wool one. Before long she'll be ready to give her loyal heart to another, human friend in a loving home of her own. But first we have to make her well.
