My dad died when I was 6-years-old. He was a rebel, an artist and he loved jewelry. He left me his wedding ring, but until my fingers could fit it, my mom wore it everyday. I always knew when she was nervous or needed a boost - she’d take it off, and massage it between her forefinger and thumb. My mom wore his ring for the rest of her life, which also ended too soon. In 2018, she was diagnosed with cancer, and within 9 months, she was gone. She never replaced my dad’s ring with a new wedding ring. She wore his until her last breath was taken. After losing my parents, all I had were their memories and this ring. It had two diamonds - one to symbolize each of them. And then, one morning after a once-trusted cleaning crew came through my house, it was gone. I searched for weeks around the house, at pawn shops, I posted on Facebook, I was ready to put up flyers. I found nothing. It was like the last piece of them that I had left was stolen. All the stories and memories - they were all tied into this simple piece of jewelry. Months later while I was getting dressed, my daughter was playing in my jewelry box. She asked about a ring I had, and why I picked out a specific necklace.
